If your GameCube is overheating, or you have needed to remove the heat sink for a repair or mod, then you will need to replace the thermal pads.
The GameCube requires three different thicknesses of thermal pad for different motherboard chips, so we created this pack which contains the correct sizes needed.
The GameCube thermal pad thicknesses are:
1MM for the Sram - There are two Sram chips, these are the smallest rectangular chips - Pad size approx 20 x 10 x 1mm 1.5MM for the GPU - There is one GPU chip, its the biggest square chip in the middle - Pad size approx 40 x 40 x 1.5mm 2.00MM for the CPU p There is a single CPU chip, its the smaller of the square chips - Pad size approx 25 x 25 x 2.0mm
All of the above are included in this kit and each thermal pad has been conveniently cut to size, and is ready to use.
To install the pads simply remove the headsink, clean off the old paste or thermal pads and your ready to fit these fresh ones.
The kit has three different thicknesses of thermal pad material, so that once installed, the level of all of the chips are the same against the heatsink for optimal heat transfer.
Remove the backing material from the back and plastic film from the front of each thermal pad as you place them down onto the corresponding size chips, as these are cut to size, you cannot put the wrong thickness or pad onto the wrong chip, each chip type is a different size.
Once the pads are in place simply screw the heatsink back into place.
This kit is fairly essential for anyone installing a Raspberry Pico into their GameCube as this requires the removal of the heatsink to install the wires, and the thermal material will often be damaged during the removal.
If repairing or modding a console, this normally involves the disassembling of the console which comes with potential risks of causing damage or further damage to the console, this is done at owners risk.
