Description:

This laminated IPS screen kit is the latest iteration of the popular funnyplaying screen mod for Game Boy Advance with a vivid 3.0 inch display area.

If you want a brighter and more vibrant display with better viewing angles then this IPS kit for Game Boy Advance is a good option.

NOTE: Please bench test the kit before fully installing to ensure that there are no issues with the product, if you do find issues please contact our support team before proceeding further.

You have the option of a no solder installation, which will offer brightness control but no OSD menu, to use the OSD menu you will need to do soldering of the Select, L & R buttons, a total of 3 wires and 6 soldering points.

Using the laminated IPS/ITA shell is highly recommended (not included), using a regular shell would require very significant cutting of the shell and the designing of a support bracket.

An injection molded bracket is included with the kit, this bracket is for use with a laminated IPS shell from Funnyplaying, it is not compatible with any other shell type.

The screen kits supports adjustable brightness with a 0.14w power draw on the lowest brightness setting. To adjust the brightness simply touch the logo on the glass.

The full contents of the kit is as follows: Laminated glass IPS LCD screen, Driver ribbon cable, hookup wires, injection molded bracket and foam pad.

Once installed the screen supports brightness adjustment via the a touch sensor.

This kit includes all of the items needed to fit the screen into a modified housing (not included), you can cut down your own shell to make the room for the LCD.

You will need to have some patience and good electronics skills to fit this kit although purchasing a pre-modified shell (once available) can drastically reduce the effort required and save you up to one hour of cutting and cleaning your own housing.

Additional tools needed include a soldering iron and solder if you wish to install the OSD menu functions.

Please note that the LCD screen and ribbon cable require care to install and are fragile in nature, they are also more susceptible to damage once installed if the console is dropped, LCD screens can crack under pressure or with a impact, our warranty does not cover accidental / user damage of any components in this kit. Replacement LCD screens are available to purchase separately.

great

The kit is great, but I would't go for the solder free route. By just dropping it in you will have to use the touch sensor and that thing... Well it doesn't really work. U will definitely reach a point where it will start shuffling between different levels of brightness and display modes. It was extremely annoying and after seeing a video from Jake Simmons where he simply cut off the touch sensor and checking if I could get a replacement ribbon cable, I decided to remove the sensor as he did and solder in the wires. Now it works perfectly. If you decide to go this rout, do it at your own risk. Replacement driver ribbons are currently sold out(at least at zedlabs)

Best laminated IPS display

The installation is easy enough following the instructions on the funnyplaying website. Best paired with a shell that is made for laminated displays so it's an easy drop in.
