Description:

If your Neo Geo AES uses a 9 volt power supply and has a power issue, then the console likely has a internal 5V regulator that has failed. The part takes the 9 volt voltage from the power pack and regulates it to the 5V that the Neo Geo AES runs on.

Some of these consoles have an external 5V power supply which is already regulated to 5V, these do not require an internal LM2576 regulator, this part is suited to variants which are using a higher voltage external power plug, which is normally 9-10 volts and 3 amps.

This part is a major brand 5 pin LM2576 regulator supporting up to 3Amps and 40 volts, ideal for consoles that run on an external 9V power plug.

The voltage regulator supports a range or input voltages between 7 and 40V, and steps down the voltage to output the required 5V to system.

This wider input voltage range means that you could use a slightly out of spec power supply that fits the power port if needed, without it impacting the system, for example a 12V power supply instead of a 9V one. It is recommened to use a known brand good quality power brick, as generic ones are often made cheaply, and can introduce noise into the video and audio channels of older consoles.

Warning on power plugs for Neo Geo AES.

If you do not know if you have a 9V or 5V system then it can be difficult to know, generally the only way to be sure is to open the console and look for the LM2576 which will sit next to a large copper coil.

Using the wrong power supply could kill the system as there will be no regulator if you plug a 9V power supply into a 5V system expecting a regulated 5V power plug, so caution should be taken if you do not know the systems history, and you cannot confirm that the power plug is known to work with the machine. Opening the machine is recommended if you have any doubt, as this is the the only truely trusted way to identify the variant you have.

Requires internal fitting and soldering, difficulty level low to medium, you will need to be able to use desoldering wick or a desoldering gun to remove the old regulator.

Thermal paste is often used on voltage regulators like this so you will normally need thermal paste to replace this part (not included)
