The Kinect 2.0 was bundled with the original Xbox One launch, then split out as an optional accessory and quietly retired. For owners still using Kinect for motion games, voice commands or fitness titles, the practical issue is connection: the Xbox One S and X dropped the dedicated Kinect port, so you need the Kinect Adapter to hook the sensor up via USB and mains power. We stock Kinect Adapters and replacement cables alongside the sensors themselves where availability allows.
Quick picks by use case
- If you have an original Xbox One: the Kinect plugs straight into the dedicated port. No adapter needed.
- If you have an Xbox One S or X: the Kinect Adapter (PC/USB) is required to connect Kinect 2.0 to those consoles. The adapter also lets you use the sensor on PCs.
- If you're chasing voice commands: Kinect's microphone array is the original "Xbox, on" hardware. Cortana and Alexa app integration largely replaced this on modern Xbox.

Xbox One Kinect. FAQs
Do I need a Kinect adapter for Xbox One S?
Yes. Microsoft removed the dedicated Kinect port on the Xbox One S and X. The Kinect Adapter (originally sold as the "Xbox Kinect Adapter for Windows / Xbox One S") connects the sensor via USB to the console plus a mains plug for power.
Is Kinect still supported today?
Sort of. Microsoft no longer sells Kinect or its adapter, and recent Xbox dashboard changes have reduced Kinect-specific features. The sensor still works for motion and voice in supported games. The Kinect SDK on PC continues to have a developer following.
Can I use Xbox One Kinect on PC?
Yes, with the Kinect Adapter, the sensor connects to a Windows PC via USB and the official Kinect SDK. It's still in active use for body-tracking, dev work and creative projects.
Will Kinect work on Xbox Series S or X?
No. The Series consoles dropped Kinect support entirely, the adapter doesn't connect, and Series Xbox dashboards don't recognize the sensor. For Kinect-led play, an Xbox One generation console is required.
