Xipher Design produce two well-known community mod kits: the GBA SP "Slab SP", an unhinged vertical conversion of the Game Boy Advance SP, and the "Pocket Color", a Game Boy Pocket shell housing Game Boy Color hardware. ZedLabz stocks the Xipher V2 Slab SP button PCB (and earlier V1 board), the V2 parts kit, the matching 34-pin FPC ribbon, shoulder trigger replacements, and the Pocket Color 3D-printed bracket / screw post / USB-C / contrast / headphone parts plus the Pocket Color button PCB.
Quick picks for any Xipher build
- Slab SP V2 starter: the Xipher Design Slab SP V2 parts kit, bundles the button board PCB and supporting parts. Note: the 3D-printed Slab shell itself is sourced separately from the designer.
- Slab SP refresh: if you've already built a Slab SP, the V2 button PCB and shoulder trigger replacements are individual SKUs for upgrades or repairs.
- Pocket Color build: the Xipher 3D-printed bracket / screw post / USB-C / contrast parts kit plus the Pocket Color button PCB, the Xipher-side parts for the GBC-to-GBP conversion. You also need a Game Boy Pocket shell (sourced separately) and Game Boy Color internals.
Xipher build notes
- Slab SP is an advanced DIY mod, both the parts kit and individual PCBs assume soldering experience. Online install guides note that light pipes need careful insertion, and you solder thin wires from GBA test pads to the button PCB. Plan the work, use a fine-tip iron, and be careful not to melt the printed shell.
- Pocket Color conversion requires shell cutting and other modifications per the Xipher product description, also DIY and not a beginner project.
- V1 vs V2: the V2 button board is the current version; a V1 board is also stocked but is now a legacy reference rather than the recommended new-build path.
Worldwide delivery with tracking on every order. These are advanced community-mod parts, modder support if you need help confirming kit compatibility.

Xipher Design. FAQs
What's the Slab SP?
The Slab SP is a community mod by Xipher Design that converts a Game Boy Advance SP into an unhinged vertical handheld, keeping the SP's screen and motherboard but replacing the clamshell shell with a single-piece 3D-printed body. The Xipher button PCB and parts kit are the electronics side; the printed shell itself is a separate sourced part.
How hard is the Slab SP build?
Advanced. The build assumes existing soldering experience, you solder thin wires between GBA test pads and the button PCB, manage tight wire routing, and handle light-pipe insertion carefully so as not to scuff the printed shell. Plan the work with a fine-tip iron, good flux and patience. Per modder community feedback, this isn't a first-mod project.
What's the Pocket Color?
A community mod that fits Game Boy Color motherboard and screen into a Game Boy Pocket shell, giving you a GBC in a smaller, more pocket-friendly form factor. The Xipher kit supplies the 3D-printed brackets, screw posts, USB-C / contrast / headphone parts and the matching button PCB. Per the product page, the build requires shell cutting and other modifications.
Do you stock the printed Slab SP shell itself?
No. ZedLabz stocks the Xipher button PCB, parts kit, FPC ribbon and trigger parts. The printed Slab shell itself is sourced from the designer or printed yourself if you have a 3D printer, the design is published.
